Angry Young ClichÉ
This was my senior project in college. It is the culmination of an education where it was a common time for me to constantly battle about the potential meaning and artistry only graphic design can open doors to, while my school was trying to create robots out of students, eager for good looking job placements and not much else. While the curriculum was product, branding, and conformity, my approach was to take everything I care about in the world, everything I had to say at the time, and put it all together, showing that design can be something more than a for sale sign in a new typeface.
I consider it, to this day, to be the one thing I am proud of. While I have changed since the book was published in May 2005, the idea of constantly fighting that uphill battle remains; the idea that aesthetics don't have to be a commodity, that the generation I am a part of does have something to say, and that the people involved with the ideas and the production and the endless hours of editing the book saw believe in something more than what the world currently accepts as part of the status quo.
