I figured that learning how to take pictures is best done in the most stressful of conditions, and fewer places are harder to manage a camera in than a basement of a punk show. I taught myself photography basically through shooting punk and hardcore shows in basements and bars, and while the life of getting elbowed nightly doesn't suit me much these days, I still take my camera along to shows to try and expand beyond long exposures and light tricks.
